David Rockefeller’s former NYC mansion lists for $57.5M

A palatial Manhattan mansion that long belonged to a late banking mogul has hit the market.

On East 65th Street, a home of decadent proportions both inside and out is looking for a new buyer to the tune of $57.5 million.

Owned for approximately seven decades by investment banker David Rockefeller — who passed away at age 101 in 2017, and his wife Peggy Rockefeller, who passed in 1996 — the property is being sold by Bill Clinton’s longtime political adviser Doug Band and his wife, Lily Band, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The Bands bought the roughly 100-year-old, 40-foot-wide property for $20 million in 2018, $12.5 million less than the price it had initially asked.

They recently completed a four-year renovation of the home, which involved excavating below the abode to raise the roof on the garden level, which now boasts ceilings 2 feet higher than they previously were, according to the publication.

In all, the five-story Colonial Revival measures in at approximately 12,500 square feet, not to mention its 3,500 square feet of outdoor space. (There are both front and backyards.)

Across the expanse are eight bedrooms, a yellow wallpapered drawing room, a living room with original knotted wood paneling, a chic mirrored dining room, three kitchens (one for family, two for service, united by dumbwaiter), a sports court, a sports simulator, a 220-inch movie screen, a sauna and a skylit spiral staircase. And that’s not all.

“Thoughtful considerations include a modernized, high-speed elevator that services all five floors; brand new, top-of-the-line A/V, mechanical and HVAC systems; and two dedicated staff rooms, each with a full bathroom,” adds the listing, which is held by Adam Modlin of Modlin Group.

“State-of-the-art security features include ballistic windows and walls, double door entry, safe room bedrooms, and cameras throughout the home.”

Modlin told the Journal that the Bands are selling the property as they are leaving New York — although it’s hard to imagine the grass is possibly more opulent on the other side of such an extravagant residence in such a prime location.
