The postmortem is in for this mortuary: It’s creepy as hell.
The internet has turned ghostly white in response to one TikTok creator’s tour of an abandoned funeral home which, despite its demise, is in hauntingly good shape.
American urban explorer Gaby, 25, and her boyfriend Sonny, 26, documented their adventure through a former funeral parlor, as well as an associated chapel — but stop short of revealing its precise location. The clip has racked up more than 145,000 views.
“We started our exploration by making our way through the funeral parlor and chapel where services for the deceased would be held,” said Gaby, JamPress reported. Seats in the spiritual space were still set to be facing towards a display casket at the front of the room.
“I had never seen an abandoned casket before and this one looked particularly eerie, with a thick coating of dust and the top slightly ajar enough just to peer inside,” she told NeedToKnow.Online.
The embalming room was even creepier, with shelves still stocked with hydrogen peroxide, bottles of lithol from “The Embalmers Supply Company,” makeup, eye caps and clothing to dress the dearly departed. Other notably horrifying objects left to rot in the space included a bloodied bucket (used to catch bodily fluids from the dead) and a porcelain embalming table. That the table remained was surprising, the explorer noted, as many funeral homes have their embalming tables removed before they’re abandoned.
Above the funeral home, Gaby and Sonny found a small apartment that — based on their discovery of knickknacks, photographs and other personal objects — they believe was once the home of the parlor’s director.
“While sifting through the upstairs apartment we found what could very likely be the funeral director’s walker in their kitchen, sitting in silence as a reminder of their past presence,” Gaby said.
The experience of walking through the purgatorial space was one of “pure excitement” Gaby said, adding that she was “quickly mesmerized by all the supplies left behind, in particular the embalming fluids and tools left in the embalming room.”
