Companies are buying up rental properties faster than they can be listed for sale, squeezing renters and buyers totally out of the market.

Kristen and Anthony Lilla say they thought renting a residence from a big company would give them an advantage in Tampa’s hyper-competitive housing market.

Instead, the military family says the eight months they spent living in a Progress Residential-owned home was “a nightmare of an experience.”
