Mets owner Steve Cohen’s old NYC penthouse flipped for millions

The flip is back!

It took eight years and a drastic 75% price slash for Mets owner Steve Cohen to sell his duplex Midtown penthouse last year. 

Once asking $115 million, it finally sold for $30.5 million.

But instead of moving in, the buyer put it back on the market for $36 million and it’s now in contract, according to the Olshan Luxury Market Report. 

The spread is at One Beacon Court, 151 E. 58th St., which was developed by Vornado Realty Trust nearly 20 years ago.

At the time, it was one of a handful of new construction luxury glass towers, built on the site of the old Alexander’s department store, where Le Cirque and now luxury Chinese eatery Hutong stand, and it boasted buyers like Cohen and the late GM CEO, Jack Welch. 

Cohen, however, seems to have gotten over living with strangers. He went on to build his own exclusive fortress in the heart of the West Village, which is now giving Billionaires’ Row a run for its money.

Cohen’s former 9,000-square-foot lair was designed by the late architect Charles Gwathmey, and it was one of his last commissions.

The penthouse comes with five bedrooms and Central Park views. 

The home also boasts a 24-foot-high ceiling in the living room, and a 2,000-square-foot main bedroom. Details include white Venetian plaster walls, maple floors, wood built-ins, a large kitchen and a pandemic-friendly home office.

The residence is also well protected. It features its own security system and a backup generator for computers. 

The listing broker, Kyle Blackmon of Compass, once told Bloomberg: “If it were up to me, the interior of this apartment would be landmarked. This is the equivalent of an Andy Warhol oil painting, relative to one of his lithographs that he signed.”
